SOUTHERN EXPRESS 2004 Version 1.0
For 2004 we have races in 3 different formats, all of which fit the philosophy of the series and fall within our "season". The core remains the Middle distance races, however we also include the SN O-Cross, which can best be described as a mass start single person relay. And, new for this year, we have a SuperSprint race – with an estimated winning time similar to the Middle races but Sprint race map scale (1:5,000) and control density, to give all of the high intensity decision making of the sprint race format, but more time in the forest.
Last season the numbers on the Yellow course continued to be extremely low, which was particularly disappointing because the difference in technicality from the other courses meant that planners have often been putting out a full and unique set of controls for one or two people. So this year we are trying something different. The course for the Extreme Juniors class will be a very short course of “Light Green” standard (i.e. TD 3/4). We hope that this will provide short but interesting courses for the youngest competitors, whilst eliminating the need for planners to put out lots of extra controls. Shadowing of juniors on this course is permitted, but if the shadower wants their run to be competitive they must do that first.
Your best 3 results count for overall placings, although (of course) you may enter as many as you wish. Scoring for the series remains similar to the
system originally used at the Scottish 6-days, with 1000 points for the class winner and other competitors gaining points based on their comparative times. The last event of the series will be the ‘final’ and offer 1200 points for class winners (with others scoring pro rata).
