SI Guide for Officials

Equipment

  • Laptop
  • SI Master unit
  • Splits Printer (+ spare roll)
  • Power lead with 2+ outlets

Preparation

  • Set up event on OE2003
  • Prepare Layout for Splits (Layout Manager)
  • Program Master (if non-USB) to stay awake for length of event (SI Manager)
  • Charge laptop (over 3 hours from flat)

Setting up the laptop

  • Connect laptop to power and switch on
  • Plug in USB hub (if 3+ devices in use)
  • Plug in USB mouse (if wanted)
  • Plug in SI Master (use serial/USB adaptor if needed)
  • Wake Master (if not USB unit) with magnet
  • Plug in Splits Printer USB lead

Setting up Splits Printer

  • Connect power adaptor – stiff socket, take care, push hard and straight!
  • Connect USB lead
  • Check paper and switch on
  • If Paper Out light stays on – open and close top, making sure that paper sticks out a bit.

Start OE2003

  • Event | Select… your event (if not already selected – see title bar)
  • Competition day | Read Chips (to check connections)
  • Select Label Layout (& printer, if necessary)
  • If you get error message: “COM port not ready”, click troubleshoot connections
  • Close this window for now.

Taking Entries

  • Entries | Direct Entries
  • Archive | Show Archive Table (if useful)
  • Check “Name from SI card”
  • From Archive Menu check “Set Rented Chip Automatically”
  • If uploading from dibbers:
    • Activate reading device (green circle)

    • If you get error message: “COM port not ready”, click troubleshoot connections
    • upload from SI card (some fields may fill from Archive if in use)
    • fill in (or modify) remaining fields (e.g. Class) – TAB between fields, ENTER to commit
  • If typing in entries from forms:

      type SI number in and hit TAB (some fields may fill from Archive if in use)

    • fill in (or modify) remaining fields (e.g. Class)- TAB between fields, ENTER to commit

Finishers

Missing Runners

  • NB this assumes that all entries are starters – i.e. no pre-entered no-shows – I’m leaving out the procedures for reading check-boxes and eliminating DNS from the listing)
  • Competition Day | More Reports | Missing Runners
  • Select all and click OK
    (This window may be kept open in the background and refreshed periodically)

Viewing Results

  • Competition Day | Results
  • choose Official Results
  • select what you want to see and click OK
  • Dealing with missing controls, incorrect times, etc
  • use Publish to create a web page of results (HTML file)
    (Printing results without an A4 printer is tricky so I’ve left it out)

Viewing Splits

  • Competition Day | Results
  • choose Split Times
  • select what you want to see and click OK
  • use Publish to create a web page of splits (HTML file)
  • use Interface to create a CSV file of splits for SplitsBrowser or RouteGadget

Modifying Entries

  • Entries | Entries … find entry, modify, press ENTER to commit changes

Troubleshoot connections

  • If using a serial master, connected using the USB-serial adaptor:
    • Check that the master is awake (red light shows below) – if not, wake with magnet
    • Click the Serial Port Settings button
    • Under “Port” choose “Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port”
    • Set baud rate to 4800
  • If using a USB master:
    • Click the Serial Port Settings button
    • Under “Port” choose “SPORTident USB to UART Bridge Controller”
    • Set baud rate to 38400

Troubleshoot punching & timing problems

  • Choose “Evaluate Chips” from the “Competition Day” menu
  • Use Actions | Insert… to grant missing controls either to one runner or to all (e.g. if a control fails or walks)
  • To modify a split time, right-click on it in the “Chip” frame
  • To modify a start or finish time, type the new time into the space in the “Chip” frame and press enter
  • Use Actions | Code Checking to re-evaluate all finishers after such a change
  • To print a new set of splits, click the “Results sheets” menu
